These days

I've been out walking
I don't do too much talking
These days, these days.
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had the chance to.

I've stopped my rambling,
I don't do too much gambling
These days, these days.
These days I seem to think about
How all the changes came about my ways
And I wonder if I'll see another highway.

I had a lover,
I don't think I'll risk another
These days, these days.
And if I seem to be afraid
To live the life that I have made in song
It's just that I've been losing so long.
La la la la la, la la.

I've stopped my dreaming,
I won't do too much scheming
These days, these days.
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten.
Please don't confront me with my failures,
I had not forgotten them.

Loved Nico, apparently so did Stevie Nicks. Couldn't stand the thick German accent in her singing though, or her affiliation with the talentless junkie, Lou Reed.

Reed's work in the Velvet Underground alone secures him a place in the rock pantheon. Reed has been among a small handful of rock talents with regard to influence on subsequent artists, and some of the very best. Only a musical ignoramus would dismiss Reed as a "talentless junkie."

"And the black girls go do, dodo, dodo, do dodo" (lyric by Reed)

Don't you find that racist?

Are you as stupid as you seem to be? That Reed refers to "colored girls" on one of his recordings has no relevance to whether he has talent or whether he is a rock and roll great. (BTW, the answer is "no.") Do us all a favor and get some education. Learn to think, to write.

Actually, preternaturally-young old guy, Jackson Browne, tells a good story on one of his live CD's about Nico singing "These Days." Andy Warhol was involved in the production, and wanted Nico to sing in some sort of plastic enclosure. "Day vant me to zing in a box," she lamented. Ah, trivia.

Roy's obituary in LA Times and Register: "we were lucky to have you while we did"
