"In the Hangar"
Our pal Jason (aka 13 Stoploss) somehow got access to the old blimp/helicopter hangers in Tustin (on Tuesday). He took some seriously cool pictures. Check out the massive doors, the cavernous interior!
"Door"
An enormous dog, sitting.

"Massive Sliding Door"
Who could dream of such a thing? Did he start with a blank slate? "Here," he said. "Make this."

"Beware Rotor Blades"
How many Marines and sailors were Vic Morrowed?
Not many, I bet. They heeded the sign.
"Sliding Door"
This one provides some sense of the hanger's size.
The building in back: so damned small! The man at bottom is an ant.
(Is that palm tree dead or alive?)

These are contemporary photos?
Jason has a distinctive aesthetic. I'm not sure I've ever seen him use color film. Check out his writing and photos here and here.
I've done color, on occasion (http://jasondavisphotography.blogspot.com/2009/07/manzanar-monument.html). It's just so bland. It fails to capture my imagination. Also, I'm red and green color blind. With color, one is always trying to capture how real everything looks--to make it just as it appeared. If color is intentionally not accurate, it almost always becomes gimmick. With B/W, I feel that I can create. And in that regard, don't think that Ansel only pushed a button to create his masterpieces. His most beautiful photos were fabricated to produce the visual he imagined, not what the camera saw. His art was created in the darkroom. Half the time, my wet prints are better than my scans...
For my writing, read this: http://fistinginiraq.blogspot.com/
That all sounds right, about color, about B&W, about Ansel. But I never try for accuracy with my color. I always push it. Contrast, too. The world is a cartoon, a painting, something about to explode, or in hell. Somehow, pictures say more than reality. Reality generally says nothing at all.
p.s. Love "Enormous dog, Sitting" (both photo and caption). Was that your caption, Jason, or VbT's? It's brilliant.

The words are not mine, but I agree--they fit well.
eh, the titles are more like quick descriptions to replace the file name and attached numbers. If you have something better--I'm not really a good namer'ing person--post 'em!
I strongly encourage you to continue to name them as you have. Do not think about it. I like 'em.
Has anyone heard from ES? I miss her. Writes so well. Curious person.
