He is a demigod. Magnificent! As is majestic, heart-breakingly beautiful Royce Hall.
Hell, I take back the "demi." Richard Thompson is a guitar--and vocal--god.
Erin and I saw a Decemberists concert at Royce Hall about a month ago.
We were very-fucking-front-left.
That school (UCLA) is gorgeous though. The 1929 photo looks like modern UCI though (minus the fancy architecture).
Well, actually, there's a good reason the Royce Hall photo looks modern: it is. I took it about two years ago during the LA Times book festival. But the building was completed in 1929.
Did it say "built in" a moment ago or did you add that?
Nope, nothing added. All original.
Ah, this damned brain. It saw sepia and 1929 and made a leap.
I can't seem to leave things alone lately. Everything gets sepia'd to death. I did not intend to deceive. But deceive I did.
I was the one who did the deceiving. It was to myself, but deceive I did.
I would argue that you were action-less.
BS, if only you could come up to the Inland Empire and take my Moral Psychology course this spring. Self-deception will occupy us for several weeks. How is it possible? Is one blameworthy for doing it? What are its advantages? How is it morally problematic?
Would you consider that 70-mile commute to sort it all out?
Sigh---no; don't even consider getting on the 91. Just my little fantasy for the day.
MAH
Sounds tempting - even with the drive...
ES
You come, too, ES! Then you guys could use the car-pool lane, as inadequate as that is.
MAH
That'd be a blast!
I couldn't do it with UCI classes in the way, though (especially if I have to bear the 91, though I imagine ES is a pleasant car companion).
But, I have to ask, does it really get worked out? Or am I doomed, again, as in ethics?
pleased to be in MAH's fantasies BS
Don't wanna be called Mr. Grumpy, but this plan is daffy. If the class meets twice a week, that's about 280 minutes of driving a week (assuming you don't hit traffic). Do the math! You'll have to give up on sleeping one night.
Maybe she'd agree to have you hang out during her once-a-year teaching extravaganza at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in "Kabob" Utah. That way, you wouldn't be driving (not, at least, in the "Inland Empire"), you could also visit other very cool places (Grand Canyon, Bryce, etc.) and check out the super-Mormons with their highly special nukular families. Plus you really can't miss with buttloads of cats and dogs and other varmints at Best Friends (see my picks in the sidebar).
I think she does this thing late in May or about then.
Just sayin'
Meh, sans UCI, 280 minutes (compared to 150 min I spend in my car now) isn't THAT much greater.
280 + 150 is daffy, you daffy, daffy guy you.
Utah sounds fun. Did I tell you I was raised Mormon yet? I think I did, you said something weird like "A lot of smart people come from Mormonism." I don't believe you.
Mormon folk love me though, I bet they just achin' for some unique DNA. I won't explain that comment any further.
BS
I said that? Well, actually, I have known some very sharp Mormons. Outstandingly smart. One of 'em, though, was a "recovering" Mormon and atheist. He's got one wife. Do not spend your life driving. Spend your life with your gal.
BvT, I accuse you not of gumpiness, but of a "daffy" reading of my post. It was a fantasy, dammit!
p.s. I hate "daffy." It seems to have come from another universe. (Now I expect you to use it far more often, just to goad me, a la "putt" and that other execrable word.)
But thanks for advertising my May course in Kanab. With a heart-stoppingly beautiful red-rock canyon, 2000 animals in need of love and attention, and the really exceptional people who started Best Friends 25 years ago--PLUS the Grand Canyon, Bryce, and Zion nearby--one cannot go wrong.
With renewed faith in Mormonism (but not *that* kind of faith) for producing the admirable BS,
MAH
BS, I don't wanna give away the ending (re the self-deception questions).... You'll just have to live in suspense.
