.....Naturally, "focus groups" have been created, and, this Wednesday, IVC's focular crew presented their work thus far. (See Accred meeting, Part 1.) The meeting was well attended and proceeded happily.
.....In the part of the meeting presented below (I have cleverly named it "Part 2"), Academic Senate President Wendy Gabriella continues to present ideas concerning how better to define roles and authorities of "constituent" groups such as faculty, students, et al. Board President Don Wagner also does a fair amount of talking.
.....At the end, Wendy begins to explain the unhelpfulness of the widely used term "shared governance" and the centrality of the legally-defined notion of "effective participation."
.....Again, I do believe that members of the IVC community who could not attend Wednesday's meeting should view these videos, for the information that was presented is important to the college's fate.

.....I'm told that at a meeting of administrators and managers this week, Chancellor Mathur continued to dispense threats re poor attendance of His meetings. It is not clear whether he threatened those who persisted in fear and despair.
.....Today, the union updated faculty re contract negotiations. We were told that, though there has been progress, no settlement will be reached until after summer. The work-to-contract continues, though the remaining faculty hiring committees have been given the green light for faculty participation.

The master of the 3rd floor and beyond, we have been told, has directed Administrators and Managers to attend HIS meetings. Only HIS ok for a before-the-fact absence is permitted. He has threatened to dock the pay of those who are AWOPM (absent without permission by said Master).
Tracy Daly provided entertainment at the last meeting by showing videos of the Master at work.
After said threat, he presented slides on change and talked about "leadership".
He also showed up late.
You cannot be late when you are TIME itself.
Manager, perhaps. Leader? No goddamn way.
I am not an attorney, but, couldn't these actions be viewed as harassment or hostile work environment?
1:20 ha haha ha ha
I gotta use that line somewhere else.
...thanks!
Question, Chunk:
What's the deal about the accreditation "survey"? Will the trustees permit it? Is it really likely to show anything any different from the "plague of despair" managers and others already feel?
Fear, despair and now exhaustion.
Do you still have those "plague of fear and despair" t-shirts?
I'm a medium.
As I recall, the subject of a survey did come up. Evidently, a survey will be done in the fall anyway in connection with our next Accreditation effort--the one for 2010. My guess is that no one will argue that, for that survey, we should include the question: "Do you feel despair? Hostility? Fear?"
Maybe somebody should point out that one of the reasons adminstrators fail to attend Mathur's lectures on how to be a leader, other than the obvious, is because there are no more administrators!
Pity Mathur didn't think of that!
