The only site I can even remotely stand is the simple and elegant google.com.

These school sites have too much information, most of which is barely necessary. You only need to find the bathroom once, and after that? The information is in the way.

Looking at UCI's site, they feel the need to "fill" every inch of the home site with automatic news feeds to UCI news, UCI In the news, and a special kind of news called "Zot!Wire" Then there is news that is "of note." Then there is "events" and a lot of big pictures. There is also a menu on the left which never gets any easier to navigate despite my proficiency with these magic desk boxes with windows to the internet.

For a University that is supposed to have classes that concern themselves with this kind of thing we have a pretty shitty site. Don't even get me started on the "Faculty Search Engine" which can't find a professor directly by typing their name in, and in the rare chance it does it informs me that it is only 76% certain that it found the correct faculty member (why is that information even useful?). To be fair, there is the possibility that this stuff is mostly shoved off to undergraduates who are doing some intern work.

I would've analyzed IVC's site, but it looks like it is currently crashing (just a big ugly error message is showing; something about an exception being thrown and a stack trace).Bohrsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13688638389383476726noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16908834.post-12375150106580163742011-11-07T19:58:37.971-08:002011-11-07T19:58:37.971-08:00Go Saddleback with those blazing saddles in red on...Go Saddleback with those blazing saddles in red on the mast head.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16908834.post-88553386186106139912011-11-07T18:28:43.727-08:002011-11-07T18:28:43.727-08:00Hello Prof Bauer, I did not realize that you were ...Hello Prof Bauer, I did not realize that you were still a professor at IVC...!
