They call it a college

Here's our new view from our office (A239) at Irvine Valley College:

Pleasant, isn' it?
It's like we're in a prison.
This is a typically Roquemorean solution to a problem--in this case, our recent vulnerability to robbery.
Bars.
The earlier solution? Screw the windows shut--I kid you not--so we can't open 'em anymore.
People really carped about that.

Check out the jerry-built "handle" we're supposed to use "in case of an emergency."
--Like a fire, I suppose.
They've thoughtfully added graphics on the handle,
in case we don't know what "up" means.
Gee, thanks.

Kinda ironic to see a "FREE SPEECH ZONE"sign next to a caged window. :) :) :) funny

Too Funny! - Roy, are they locking you in or out?

Susan Sontag was right about a lot.

Poor thing... How could anyone in academia look through that window and not have one's guts spill out?

One of America's safest cities requires bars on the windows of a public college? Neither the Police department in Irvine nor the County Courthouse on Jamboree have bars on the windows. There are many non-obtrusive security devices available for commercial buildings (look around people). Putting bars and grates on windows is just another example of the stupidity that goes on around here.

This is another SAD, SAD day for IVC.

Appalling. Simply appalling, but oh so typical of the complete lack of caring, of any intellect, of moderation, of contemplation, of a complete misunderstanding of human nature, of a complete lack of understanding or acknowledgement of the continuing declining moral at IVC, - all of it caused by the administration of the college. What a cold-hearted, visionless, robotic, non-human response and action from the Roquemorian-(in)Justicely-Oaksian oligarchy of dictatorial styled behavior. As I heard from someone recently at IVC, it appears that this administration absolutely does not care about people as people, they seem to believe, 'oh well, they're just people, we'll just go get more'.

In addition to IVC, I teach at OCC and Santa Ana CC and I have never seen bars on windows. In my 20+ years of teaching, I have only taught at one location with bars and that was the Orange County jail. Doesn't anyone realize the message that they are sending?

I presume that the faculty affected by this policy were consulted and agreement was reached to proceed in this manner. Right?

All the windows in A-100 are getting security bars too.

Anonymous said...

If A100 is getting security bars, I want the key so they can be locked from the outside. LOL

8:03am You mean actually having a conversation with the people involved who would be impacted by this decision to gather their input and feedback? HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA......

Anonymous said...

There were meetings, just not with the people who inhabit the offices.

Very ugly.

Hey Roy! I will forward to you my Johnny Cash live from Folsom County Prison CD. LoL

Discussions with those impacted in A200??!! Not at all, ever, at the modern IVC.

This administration has methodically and insidiously repressed faculty across the college. GR seems to allow hatchet-man-in-chief VPI (in)Justice to be the college's 'secret police' retaliation leader as well as our chief planner and enactor of morale destruction, this combined with arrogant faculty haters VPSL Fontinella, and Queen Oaks, 'autocratic selector of propaganda and enactor of free speech suppression', the faculty are treated very very poorly and slapped around for merely practicing their 1st Amendment Rights, - Discussions?, of course there was no discussion with the people in A200.

The solution of jail bars also provides an undeniable example of their apparent small-minded quasi 'militaristic marshall law' approach to running the college.

Let's not forget of course our ineffective and non-intellectual 'Dean Corps', the truth is however, that we do not how they could or would perform sans 'the terror' to which we are told they are subjected at the hands of Vice Dictator (in)Justice.

If you think the faculty are treated dismissively and worse, the classified are treated much worse!

Nothing will change at IVC, a college with unbelievable potential, (currently suppressed potential), until the self-appointed Supreme Council of Rulers of our Executive Administration is changed. Thank you SOCCCD Board of Trustees, your at fault for all of this.

Can't wait to read the coming accreditation fiction report of administration CYA-ness.
