Trustee appointment (two applicants?)

According to the District website, interviews of applicants for filling the vacancy in trustee area 6 (Lake Forest)—created by Tom Fuentes' passing—“will be held the week of June 18, 2012.”
A reader has commented that “Two people applied for the position. Jim Wright of Saddleback and Tom's widow [i.e., Jolene Fuentes]."
That may well be true. Those were the two names that came up—in the district rumor mill—almost immediately after the trustees’ curious decision, during a special meeting, to pursue a replacement of Tom Fuentes was announced. (See May meeting.) (A reader commented that this information was announced during the docket meeting this week.)
Jim Wright is the Dean of Math, Science & Engineering of the Division of Math, Science, and Engineering, Saddleback College.
I do believe that Wright, who was honored with an "Admin of the Year" prize in 2009, has retired.
At the special meeting held immediately after the last board meeting, Board President Nancy Padberg indicated that one of Tom Fuentes’ “relatives” expressed interest in pursuing the area 6 trusteeship. It would seem that the only relative who could apply is Tom's widow, Jolene.

  1. It was announced at the docket meeting this week.

  2. As Tom was firmly opposed to nepotism, I'm sure that wife/kids would not wish to offend his principles.

  3. Of course they'll give it to Jolene - that is how the crappy system works.

  4. Being married to someone doesn't mean you have the same skill set (or lack thereof).

  5. But skill doesn't matter - that's what so awful.

  6. Perhaps a trustee or two will stand up and against this kind of "anointment" - one can hope.

  7. Surely the trustees won't appoint someone who does not have any experience.

  8. What experience did the dearly departed have prior to his appointment? His only "qualification" appeared to be a disdain for public education and the academy.

  9. We can be sure they'll find someone with experience, and please 9:57, don't call me Surely!

  10. Fuentes was not the last of the "rat bastards" there are still plenty of those guys around. Jim Wright can make a difference in a very positive way. Hope the Board is smart enopugh to see it.

If you have a view or position, approach it as something that ought to be supported with reasons. If you can’t do that, read elsewhere.
