Schmeidler v. Chandos for IVC Academic Senate President

Kathy Schmeidler
The faculty of Irvine Valley College have a problem: almost no one wants to run for the offices of the Academic Senate, a crucial “governance group” at the college. —And the election is coming up soon.
Morale is pretty low, I'm afraid (listening, trustees?). Participation in governance is among the casualties of all this gloomitude.
As of two weeks ago, the matter looked pretty grim, for no one had volunteered to run (or agreed to be nominated) for the two major Senate offices (Prez and VP).
But, recently, one person stepped forward as a Presidential candidate—namely, the widely respected Kathy Schmeidler, a bio instructor and a long-time grievance officer for the Faculty Association. Still, by Thursday, the most recent Senate meeting, no one had yet stepped forward to run for VP.
Ray Chandos
Yesterday (Friday), a reliable source told me that one more person had thrown his hat into the ring for the Presidential gig: Ray Chandos, a close pal of Raghu Mathur's and an important member of the notoriously unprincipled and ruthless union leadership circa 1996. [BUT SEE THIS UPDATE]
For those unfamiliar with the Rayster, the following posts should get you up to speed in a hurry:

Chandos has some good qualities but they are much out weighed by the not so good.

Go Cathy.

Ray would undoubtly be the best choice at this juncture.

Is this a way of keeping his program afloat?

When the time comes, we'll bring out the flyer--the homophobic flyer--that he, Sherry, Kurt, and others published and mailed using Association PAC monies to defeat decent possible BOT members. Instead we got Fortune, Williams, Frogue, and others and we are still suffering the fallout from their mismanagement of OUR union. CTA finally concurred after a detailed investigation. The former Association leadership was voted out. We now have a much more transparent FA.

The character assassination on this blog is getting about as predictable as it is scurrilous these days, although where is the expected tie-in with John Williams, Tom Fuentes, or Attila the Hun? Keep digging, Roy, it must be out there somewhere. You've taught us that all these evildoers are joined at the hip, and completely distinct from us sanctimonious--er, sanctified types. Don't disappoint us.

"A much more transparent FA?" Poleeez! Give us a break!

I remember the homophobic flier quite well as well as the steady defense of Frogue. The only thing I heard anyone of them ever say about the flyer was Sherry saying something to the tune of: "Well, maybe it went a bit too far.'

Kathy has been an exceedingly fair and judicious grievance officer - which is a good sign of her ability to advocate for faculty.

I think Ray will do a great job as President. He will fight for faculty rights. Something that has been missing from the present cabinet.

Ray will do a great job? Like when he spoke for Fuentes? Defended Frogue? Defended Mathur? Ray is 100% toxic.

Either candidate will do a great job. I'm just grateful they were willing to step up.

I think Ray's long history for supporting candidates and admins who seeks to crush and divide and who are willing to use homophobic and borderline racist appeals make Ray unfit to represent faculty. But that's just ME. He'd tell you he did that so we could all have higher pay and that it was worth it.

What about how he tried to sell Jeff K. down the river?

If more than a few faculty vote for Ray Chandos, given who he is and what he's done, then this faculty and this college aren't worth spit. Imagine who would work with him. Imagine who would jump ship, leaving the Senate to founder utterly.

Both Ray and Kathy have long proven records of advocating for faculty rights. They are both more than qualified. I think we're lucky having such excellence amongst our ranks.

Roy, ya gotta give up the past, man. Please get with 2012. Shake off all that weight you've been carrying on your shoulders. If not now, when?

What kind of faculty rights need advocating?

Ok, let's stick with the present. Why has Professor Chandos not kept up with his own technology? Why are his classes so small? Why is his program under review for elimination? Is this the man IVC wants for a Senate president?

6:56, so mean spirited you are. I bet you're that vendictive little tool of a crybaby who heads up that program elimination committee. Or perhaps the VPI?

Roy's obituary in LA Times and Register: "we were lucky to have you while we did"
