“The Lord said, ‘don’t do that’ ”

From this morning's Inside Higher Ed:
Richard Roberts, who resigned last week as president of Oral Roberts University, amid a series of allegations against him and his wife, told students in a brief talk Wednesday that he didn’t want to quit, but God told him to, the Associated Press reported. Roberts — who denies wrongdoing — said that he wanted to “strike out” against those who were opposing him, but “the Lord said, ‘don’t do that,’ ” and the next day, Roberts quit.

Did god tell him to be a thieving rat bastard too?

I bet God tells him to wear women's underwear.

That seems to be what He tell one of our trustees.

In your opinion, 12:39, which one doesn't: Padberg or Milchiker?

Finally, I can say "Thank God," and actually mean it.

Didn't Bush tell us something like; "we have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" ?

Message to W: They're here already!

Why didn't God tell him how not to get caught? Now THAT would have been helpful.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.

Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.

Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.

Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.

Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Do not cast me from your presence
or take your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.

Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

Man, is that ever whiny and obsequious. You and god need some couples therapy.

Many times, when I am troubled or confused, I find comfort in sitting in my backyard and having a vodka and cranberry along with a quiet conversation with Jesus.

This happened to me yesterday after a particularly difficult day.

I said "Jesus, why do I work so hard?"

And I heard the reply: "Men find many ways to demonstrate the love they have for their family. You work hard to have a peaceful, beautiful place for your friends and family to gather."

I said: "I thought that money was the root of all evil."

And the reply was: "No, the LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Money is a tool; it can be used for good or bad."

I was starting to feel better, but I still had that one burning question, so I asked it. "Jesus," I said, "what is the meaning
of life? Why am I here?"

He replied: "That is a question many men ask. The answer is in your heart and is different for everyone. I would love to chat with you some more, Señor, but for now, I have to finish your lawn."

Vodka and cranberry is actually a Cape Cod in bartending parlance. It's easier to say, too...I'm wistful of the days when people knew the speakeasy names for drinky-poos.
