New look (Attempt #2)

You'll be happy to know that, as far as we can tell, Raghu is in a TOTAL SHIT STORM. If you see him, offer him an umbrella and then smile benevolently.

Raghu, good luck with all those turds.

As always, Dissent takes the high road.

Reviews of the "new look" were mixed. Some readers did not like its blankness or whiteness or lack of pizzazzery. (I was aiming at simplicity and elegance.) Some seemed to suppose that the new look meant a change in the graphic content of the blog (that was not our intention).

Some liked the new look, though their views were not expressed in the comments.

I've decided to try another "new look." It involves the same format as the old blog, but with different colors.

So, again, I say:

Let us know whether you like DISSENT the BLOG's new look.

While you're at it, let us know what you like or don't like, what you want more or less of, in the blog.

Looks great. I wouldn't change a thing.

There's no sex, though. How's about some sex?

I like the change in tone from the days of the old Dissent that was nippier and more caustic to a more balanced, thoughtful, and humorous approach to the sad state of affairs brought on by the current Chancellor.

Did you catch the significance of the Chancellor's opening remarks during Inservice Tuesday? When he introduced the college presidents (only changing the name of the person and school) as "This is President McCllough, the man who assists me in running Saddleback College" and then repeating the same line about IVC's Glen.

I miss the old caustic tone. Bring it back. We cna take it.

Ummm, I guess it's kinda retro. Or something.

More pictures of Adam Probolsky?

I like it when you make Tom Fuentes fly.

I'm sorry, but I just don't like the new look. I've tried. But it's just so floaty and refrigerator white and stark. I always look forward to your photos of campus, and right now, I love the one of the old maintenance portable. Quaint. Pathetic, but quaint.

I like my blog the good old fashioned way.....keep up those pictures. Remember some of us are graduates of community colleges.

Yes, we intend to keep up the pictures and graphics.

Gila, thanks. I'll check out these sites.

Hope things went well on Thursday night. I'm not much of a party (or bar) animal. One of these days I'll get up the nerve to go.

I prefer the 2-color format because it allows for distinctions among posts, lists, archives, etc. It's just more readable.

And the thing I like about your blog is the tone you take, the attitude of the (amused & saddened) Reasonable Helper, out there with your camera and clipboard just trying to get the facts straight. I appreciate you because you will talk to anyone, have relationships, in fact, with adversaries and cohorts that allow you to converse, and that's crucial to your reporting here.

LUCY:

Thanks for the words of encouragement. Always appreciated.

I do have a question though. By two-color format, do you mean what we have now or what we used to have or that blanker look we had for a day or two? Please identify the format that you find more readable. I mean "two color" can, it seems, refer to about anything we've put up. --So it seems to my simple mind.

Who is the antennal dweeb pictured here, chunk?

Curt McLendon, a Saddleback College chem instructor, was among the Old Guard unionists who got us into this mess. That is, the Old Guard are the unprincipled idiots who brought us Holocaust denying trustees, President (then Chancellor) Raghu Mathur, and the Board(s) from Hell, starting with the notorious "board majority" of December 1996.

Since Curt seems to be a great booster of SETI (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence), and since he seems to lack intelligence, I decided to give him antennae.
